The therapeutic benefits of cannabis have been proven by scientific studies and several personal success stories. Cannabis is demonstrating effectiveness in treating everything from Alzheimer’s to pain, anxiety and cancerous tumors. Legalization of marijuana for medical purposes has already spread across more than half of the country. Concern, has been raised that proper and prolonged use of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, could potentially lead to psychological complications. But fortunately, cannabidiol (CBD) provides a safeguard against the adverse side effects of THC. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis, and a recent university verified that equal proportions of CBD and THC prevent the emergence of all behavioral deficits. Injections of THC were given to a group of adult mice. A second group of mice were given only CBD. And then a third group of mice got equal dosage of both THC and CBD. The first group showed problems in memory and increased anxiety. The second group demonstrated no cognitive changes, and then the third group, those that got the combination of THC and CBD, also showed zero signs of cognitive abnormalities. CBD protects against adverse effects caused by THC. CBD is found in flowering marijuana and in hemp, and is genuinely abundant. It is a safe, natural, medicine and it offers successful treatment of neurological disorders. Natural strains of cannabis offer close ratios of THC and CBD. Over the years, the plant has been bred for greater potency, diminishing the amount of CBD in it, but growers are now concentrating on CBD-rich strains of cannabis.
